This year, ArtCenter’s annual Car Classic celebrates the 70th anniversary of the College’s Transportation Design program and the indelible mark our alumni have made on the world around us, and of course the cars that we know and love.

Whether it’s yesterday’s dream of the flying car, today’s shared driving experience or tomorrow’s autonomous vehicles, artists and designers have been depicting the future of transportation design—and bringing it to life. The annual Art Center Car Classic is the one place to see it all, and those that make the magic happen!

Rocket Takes Flight

America has a love affair with all things related to space travel starting in the 60s and 70s. The recent automotive venture of Galpin Auto Sports and Henrik Fisker has created a project reflective of that time. No, the Rocket’s design isn’t similar to a metal cylinder, but it is unmistakably inspired by specialty pony cars of the 1960’s and early 1970’s including the 1968 Shelby GT500. The Rocket’s lines emanate from the front, through the long hood, over a set of sculptured flared fenders and converge on its integrated rear spoiler, belying the car’s extreme power and refined athleticism. The best part is you won’t have to shop around for rocket fuel, as gasoline will work just perfectly.
