Feeling Green at the 2022 LAAS – the Overview
For years, the LA Auto Show (LAAS) was known as the “Green” auto show with alternative energy power, while the Detroit show (NAIAS) got all the muscle. Now, it’s hard to tell the difference.

ArtCenter College of Design is a hub, focal point, gathering place, and launchpad for those in the creative fields. Arguably, the school is the global birthplace for the majority of car designers. Annually, the college pays homage to those with the ArtCenter Car Classic 2019.
This year the ArtCenter Car Classic is dubbed 70 years of Iconic Design. AutoDesignO wrangled some of the extraordinary talent to provide some definition to the word “icons”. Interviews with Erik Goplen, Fireball Tim Lawrence, Jay Leno, Frank Saucedo, Larry Wood, and Roger Zrimec.
This year, ArtCenter’s annual Car Classic celebrates the 70th anniversary of the College’s Transportation Design program and the indelible mark our alumni have made on the world around us, and of course the cars that we know and love.
The world’s most respected designers gather at annual mobility love fest to pay tribute to stunning details, imaginative rides and customized works of art with this year’s theme of “Built by Hand”.
The 2016 Car Classic is more than just another high-profile car show, this popular public event celebrates the very best in automotive design, showcasing the College’s strong ties to industry and honoring many of our noteworthy alumni. This year, ACCD highlights handcrafted vehicles from the past and present and will hear from the people who build and collect them.
AutoDesignO’s flagship event, “Cars of Character”, redefines how professionals explore automotive design, bringing outside amazing concept and preproduction cars, and offering visual presentations on a theater big screen. The event at Warner Brothers Studios sheds light on the talent, technology, and inspirations in the clandestine world of automotive design.
Each year for the past 10 years, the Design Challenge theme is chosen by the DesignLA Board of Directors. The board is made up of a dozen design studio executives. Automotive design studios from around the world are invited to participate and this year, studios from Germany, Japan and the U.S. will compete to design “Biomimicry & Mobility 2025: Nature’s Answer to Human Challenges.” With biological knowledge doubling every five years, designers now have the instruments and the capacity to mimic nature like never before. Nature is becoming one of the best R&D labs we know.
