Design Challenge 2012 Returns to the LA Auto Show

The pace of change in society accelerates every year, with breakthrough technologies and rapidly developing countries constantly rewriting the rules in a global economy. As part of the 9th annual LA Auto Show Design Challenge, the world's top auto designers have envisioned a future with even more crowded roads, electronically monitored and controlled traffic and significant changes in human behavior.

Getting Green

Like it or not, we are in a race to save our very lives. The starting gun was fired years ago, and we aren’t entirely sure where the finish line is, or when the time on the clock will run-down. But make no mistake; we are clearly in challenge unlike any other that man has created before. The $64,000 question remains, can civilization move the needle back enough to preserve the eco-system as we know it? How can we change our course, and get on a different path? A path that allows us to continue to progress, yet treads lighter on our world.

Biomimicry & Mobility 2025: 2013 Design Challenge

Each year for the past 10 years, the Design Challenge theme is chosen by the DesignLA Board of Directors. The board is made up of a dozen design studio executives. Automotive design studios from around the world are invited to participate and this year, studios from Germany, Japan and the U.S. will compete to design “Biomimicry & Mobility 2025: Nature’s Answer to Human Challenges.” With biological knowledge doubling every five years, designers now have the instruments and the capacity to mimic nature like never before. Nature is becoming one of the best R&D labs we know.

30 World Debuts and Evolution of OEM Design Language at 2014 LAAS

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 18, 2014) – The Los Angeles Auto Show confirmed today that 30 world debuts (totaling 60 vehicle unveilings overall) will be introduced in front of a global audience during its 2014 Press & Trade Days (Nov. 18-20) at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Almost every manufacturer has news to make in Los Angeles, but several automakers stand out with multiple global premieres of significant new vehicles. Audi is planning one of its biggest LA Auto Shows to date, with up to eight total debuts, three of which are global, all to be presented by chairman of the board, Rupert Stadler. Mercedes-Benz will feature three world premieres, which will be showcased alongside the brand's two North American debuts, while Porsche will hold several world reveals.

Constellium Joins MIT Led Consortium to Improve Auto Structural Design

NEW YORK, (Sept. 11, 2014) -- Constellium N.V. announced today that it has joined the Industrial Fracture Consortium established by Professor Tomasz Wierzbicki from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The consortium will engage in research to develop and improve modeling and mathematical simulations software designed to predict the behaviors of the structural components during forming and crash, which are amongst the most important performance evaluation criteria in automotive engineering.

APT MotoVox Group, Inc. Announces Acquisition of MotoPeds

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Sept. 12, 2014) -- APT MotoVox Group, Inc. (OTC BB: MTVX) today announced the acquisition of MotoPed, which debuted last December in a breakaway Kickstarter campaign that quickly went viral. The MotoPed design (soon available in Beach Cruiser, Downhill, and Black Ops Survival bike models) is a radical new mash-up fusing the unique combination of a downhill mountain bike, a motocross motorcycle, and a moped. The MotoPed utilizes a patented jackshaft pedal drive system and various lightweight low-displacement engine packages in order to yield a 115 pound "Frankenbike" of sorts that gets up to 160 miles per gallon as a commuter, while letting its riders slam a back-country trail on the way home.

Calty Design Draws Inspiration from Maker Faire, Urban Lifestyle Trends
