Modelmaking and Transportation Design certificate programs engage students in the methods and techniques used to explore, record and communicate the visual information in design. Career options include transportation design modelmaking and digital design simulation and prototyping.
Built around the University’s signature “Theory and Practice” approach to learning, the Bachelor of Science in Transportation Design combines in-depth conceptual investigations with hands-on projects and extensive exposure to working professionals.
In addition, the school offers non-credit courses in the visual arts through our Continuing Education programs and provide opportunities for youth through Community Arts Partnerships.
The Product Development program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills required for entry-level positions in a variety of design environments. The program focuses on the development of both technical and professional proficiencies. The curriculum includes industrial processes and materials, rapid-prototyping, computer-aided design, applied problem solving skills, and presentation techniques.
BFA candidates begin with their study acquiring fundamental skills and knowledge by taking courses in drawing, model making, and digital media. Once students proceed to design courses, students will be assigned to projects where they apply critical thinking in order to identify and solve problems accordingly, fully utilizing those skills and knowledge acquired during the earlier semesters. The program emphasizes critical thinking; the identification and resolution of design problems and the nurturing of creativity and innovation. Students are expected to achieve expertise in problem-solving processes, while gaining exposure to the design and business community. Final projects include a thorough analysis of the target market, concept development and refinement, aesthetic perspective, design finalization, and final presentation.
The Institute, in more than 25 years of activity has succeeded in bonding the traditional subject matter with a group of teachers, and highly specialized professionals. This has been the first Italian institute to open a course of “Car body architecture”, today called “Transportation design”, and now is attended by students coming from all over the world.
With today’s emphasis on digital imaging and clay milling the need or requirement for traditional clay sculptors is on the decline. And the more traditional sculptors are reaching their golden years.
