ArtCenter’s annual Car Classic features unique, custom, specially built vehicles that will include early coachbuilt cars, custom hot rods and motorcycles, concept cars, bespoke supercars, and specially modified vehicles from all eras—classic to modern to concept.
This year the ArtCenter Car Classic is dubbed 70 years of Iconic Design. AutoDesignO wrangled some of the extraordinary talent to provide some definition to the word “icons”. Interviews with Erik Goplen, Fireball Tim Lawrence, Jay Leno, Frank Saucedo, Larry Wood, and Roger Zrimec.
The Mullin Gallery will not feature any permanent collections. In addition to transportation related exhibits the multi-functional gallery is planned to showcase various topics in art and design in the coming years.
This year, ArtCenter’s annual Car Classic celebrates the 70th anniversary of the College’s Transportation Design program and the indelible mark our alumni have made on the world around us, and of course the cars that we know and love.
In the real world of transportation design, there are many factors that can lead to a less than daring path. But, school is still the one place where you can still let it all hang out with wild abandon.
Many ArtCenter alumni of the school’s transportation design department represent the cream of the crop in the world of mobility design. This is why Car Classic is considered a “homecoming”.
It’s about time we made a car that not only has a wraparound love seat but is also best-in-class for diaper changing, and REDSPACE can fill that niche!
"I played with Hot Wheels as a kid, my first toys were Hot Wheels - my first car was the Hot Wheels. You know, it's always really nice to come full circle working in the industry." - Adam Berry
You don't know what's happening in your brain. But, it sets up a catalyst for all sorts of creativity. And I think when you see the freedom in toys... I'm witness to this, you see direct effect on vehicles like this!
ArtCenter is proud to once again host the annual Car Classic, celebrating the very best in transportation design, showcasing the College’s strong ties to industry, and honoring many of our noteworthy alumni.
